Art is an important occasion for learning. Each child is involved in discovering and developing skills for observing, judging, and accurately recording his/her day-to-day surroundings and activities. Art education guides the child in expressing what he/she had learned through the use of many materials. A general overview of the art education program reveals our basic belief that art must be directed to the development of the individual as a useful, contributing member of society.
The art program includes the use of an extensive variety of materials and many different kinds of activities. These experiences fall into four main categories.
1. Graphic expression and illustration (crayon, chalk, watercolors, cut paper, printmaking)
2. Design (selection, composition, arrangements, applied design)
3. Constructions (mobiles, mosaics, masks, mold-making, ceramics, experimental techniques)
4. Appreciation (discussing, choosing, developing an awareness of art and beauty)
Art challenges the child to create and reconstruct his/her thoughts and feelings of the world they live in. |
